athlete

In SMSP, an athlete is any student ages 13–18 who works toward goals and challenges themselves—whether in sports, school, the arts, leadership, or other activities that require focus and effort. Being an athlete isn’t about being the best; it’s about showing up, practicing, and growing over time.

coach

A Coach, Advisor, or Facilitator is a trusted adult who supports a student’s growth by guiding reflection, reinforcing learning, and encouraging progress—without replacing the student’s voice or ownership. This role works alongside guardians and other adults to create shared understanding, strengthen communication, and help translate insights into real-world growth across academics, activities, and life.

guardian

A guardian is any trusted adult who has an active role in supporting and caring for a young person. This may include parents, caregivers, foster parents, relatives, or other adults responsible for a student’s well-being and development.

organization

An Organization is any school, school district, foundation, municipality, health care provider, or community-based entity that serves young people at scale and supports their development, wellbeing, and performance. Within SMSP, organizations provide the structure, resources, and coordination that allow students, families, and trusted adults to engage consistently and effectively.
